One Last Dance

January 12, 2007

Went to catch 茶舞 with Clarence and Yida a few hours ago at Jubilee. Didn’t realise it’s NC16 until i bought tickets. Guess I dont really care unless it’s a R21 show eh? In fact very soon i wont have to care about the rating liao. haha.

Kinda lazy to review this in Chinese ‘cos i take too long to type and think in Chinese (as compared to English.) So here goes:

This movie is supposed to be based in HK (or so I heard?) and it’s filmed entirely in Singapore. It’s fine being filmed entirely in Singapore but at least get some details right lah. They used 8 digits for fax number (iirc HK uses 8 digits), so that’s fine. The train station used wasn’t any of our MRT stations so that’s fine too. Chinese newspapers were written in traditionalNvm the road signs cos it doesnt really matter. At least get the car plates right. Maybe it’s due to Singapore’s stringent laws and dont allow such plates even for filming purposes? Shrugs.

Subtitles were a little weird at times. Gotta work on that too. But overall not bad lah.

Overall, the story isnt really very complex, just that the way it is presented can be quite confusing. The events shown are not in chronological sequence and u’ll only realise it towards the end of the movie. So towards the end of the movie, u’ll be in a state to figure things out and piece together the sequence that the events happened chronologically. I guess that’s why the posters’ design all use jigsaw pieces, cos u’ll have to piece these events together so that they fit nicely and form a smooth flow in progress of story/plot. I guess that’s the most worthy part of the movie? Haha. And oh, Francis Ng’s acting is pretty good as usual =)

A pretty okay-ish movie. Rating: 3/5

2007 has arrived~

January 3, 2007

I think this can be regarded as my first post of 2007 (video news is different kind of entry. :P ) Days and weeks have come and gone, and here we are, in yet another brand new year.

As usual, I didnt make any definite New Year Resolution. Could be a good thing, could be a bad thing. It all depends on how u look at it. Heh. Well, at least it’s a good thing for me becoz i know i will fail to meet most of the things i set out to do (if not all). lol.

Well, at least this year should be something different from the past couple of years. It’s back to school (uni) in the later part of the year. After all, 2 years of NS has made me lost touch with academic stuff. Hopefully, uni will be a fairly good time apart from me having to worry about my grades (u should know why).

p.s. i missed in GunBound’s Lucky Draw for today =( and the lucky draw is ending soon… sighx, there goes my source of free game money. lol.

9th CMV - The Transition

Yeah after so, so long, my latest video is finally up on the Net. Temporarily it’s on YSI (yousendit) for a week before it expires (yea i’m using the free account type, so only 7 days/100downloads not 14days/500downloads). Hopefully it’ll be up on permanent hosts soon (have to make sure the owners download it off YSI before it expires).

Before i go on to comment about the video itself, I’ll just put up some random images of the video contents.

I definitely spent a lot of time and effort on this one, using a different capturing technique (thanks to Posix) to record my combos onto .avi format before proceeding with editing. This is also part of the meaning behind “The Transition” as I’ve switched from supposedly-30fps recording to a true 60fps video =)

It is also the first time that I’ve asked people to appear in my video, which meant more time spent to contact people and effort to organise all the stuff that they have sent in ^_^. Now I kinda understand how other editors out there feel when they’re trying to do a “Guest” section in their videos. It isn’t as easy as you think =D

The other meaning to “The Transition” is the Player2’s priority at the corner when Player1 is facing the corner. It allows Player 2 to jump INTO the corner, and is only exclusive to Player 2 (the same cannot be achieved using the reverse scenario.) I know I’m bad at explaining with words, so do check out the video and be on a look out to see when Player 2 can actually go into the corner when Player 1 is already there. For those who have watched some/all of the videos that I’ve shared here, you should know what I mean by now =D

Actually, there could have been a 3rd meaning to “The Transition”, which was the use of x264 encoding. However, I’ve given up on it as I can’t seem to get the settings right (good quality without blowing the filesize too huge). I also had a problem with the .avi files after encoding. They had weird “scanlines” throughout the whole video. Gotta ask around to gain enlightment.

The version that the Net will see is a 171mb .wmv file with a duration of 15m11s. It seems big because firstly, it’s a 60fps video (compared to most videos which are only 30fps), and encoded with a bitrate of 1.5mbps (it’s quite high quality already IMO, though the one I’m keeping is even higher.). I intend to get it up on YouTube as well, but apparently they have a 10min limit. Will seek help from the YouTube experts and ask them to upload on a later date (after being released on permanent webhosts.).

For any questions related to the video, be it in-game help, or technical help, feel free to drop me an email, or msg me on MSN…

Now, for the links. I’ve passed the links to a few of my good buddies and friends from the various forums. I trust that they wont sabotage me and make the links invalid. Come on, 100 downloads is definitely wayyy more than enough for those guys, and even for people who actually bother to download after reading this entry (like how few?). I had to split the file into 2 for YSI as the free account type I own only allows a maximum of 100mb/file. More links will be added as they are uploaded to various servers. I will add in notes to future entries whenever there’s an update of links for downloads ^_^

NDCU Vol 5 - In Full!!!

After a long wait for both the Y-AV server to be back up and for NDCU Capt to release the NDCU Anniversary video (which was introduced in parts earlier), the FULL version of the video is finally here!!

It’s one of the longest CMV I’ve seen in recent times, with a whooping duration of 34m40s! Yeah, I bet hardly anyone will actually bother to download and watch but oh wells I’ll still share it anyway. =D

This video contains many excellent combos with great editing to top it off. Fans of KOF must watch this for some crazy combos in it. The only complaint i have is that the music used isn’t exactly my taste though the songs proved to be rather appropriate at several scenes in the video.

Given its exceptional length, the video weighs at 325mb, and is in rmvb format (requires real player or related alternatives).
