Early Matriculation…or not

October 16, 2006

Went to NUS yesterday for this talk about early matriculation to NUS next  year. In the end, it’s 2 special terms (each lasting 6 weeks) and you can take up to 4 modules (2 per term max) before the rest join in (the gals and other guys like poly dudes). so for those who intend to ‘chiong’ and *try* to finish 1 semester earlier than the usual people, u can actually do so by taking some modules earlier and a bit more than the recommended 5 in one of the semesters during the actual course (each uni sem each student takes approx 5 modules). bottomline is, if u manage to somehow complete 5 modules faster than those who will join in the august term (normal term), u can “graduate” a semester earlier. why did i use the ” ” is cos u wont receive the actual cert, but u can apply for jobs as NUS will write a letter for you or something. end up u still get ur cert (plus throw ur cap) together with the rest of the cohort. heh.

personally, i’m not very keen on going in early. given the hectic pace of the special terms, i dont really see how it is a GOOD way to let guys adjust back into the “studying/use ur brain for academic stuff” mode, unless u go in early, take 1 or 2 modules in total so that 1 or 2 semesters in the full course u can relax *abit*. that defeats the purpose of going in early right? end up spending more time in university.

good thing is, i’ve got time to think until year-end when NUS will send an official form. come to think of it, it aint so far away man. hmm…

on other matters, Speed Demo Archives has updated with new starcraft runs! mission/campaign speed runs of course. it’s really amazing how people can keep on slashing times for the missions. Starcraft’s (original) time of 4:04:42 has gone down to 3:28:39 and Starcraft’s (brood war) original time of 4:30:00 has gone down to 3:03:40. that’s some serious improvements over the past 1 year. of course there are many other speed runs of other games on the site, but most of the games there i’ve never played before. for games that i play, usually i will check it out and marvel at their attempt to push the limits of the games… amazing stuff. (ok i have weird interests)

regarding my next video, i’m still working hard for the combos. did a lame “spiderwoman” combo just hours ago. why do i say that? cos i made Whip do her J.qcb+C 5 times in succession. rofls.  (for those who dont know, it’s okay. i understand.)

next on, to the shows i’ve been watching. first up is 七剑下天山 the tv series. i must say the first 2 eps are much better than the movie, which was really really rushed. too bad the audio is in canto so i can’t really understand it. but lucky for me, there are english subtitles, though sometimes the translation that they use is kinda weird and have lost some flavor (i’m guessing based on the pronunciation in canto, since it’s *somewhat similar* to mandarin.). i guess i can make do with this tv series unless i get bored of it a few eps in the future… heh.

second, it’s death note (the anime)! i must say this series is DAMN GOOD. didn’t read the manga. havent watched the movie (it’s only part 1. and i’m waiting for jeff to come back to watch together. he just left for taiwan today. lol). david also commented that the movie (live-action) is good too. i guess the success of its manga counterpart (which started it all) is no fluke. can’t wait for more of this series…

lastly are movies. watched superman returns, click and da vinci code recently. superman returns wasn’t really interesting, no wonder many people complained to me that it’s rather boring. nothing much really. click was more light-hearted and meaningful. as for da vinci code, i didn’t read the book but i could tell from the movie that it’s sort of a fast forwarded novel (assuming it follows rather closely) as some things progress too darn fast. heh. of the 3 movies, i rate click 4.25/5 (ooo weird rating), da vinci code 3.5/5 and superman returns 2.5/5.

now now, i really should get to bed and sleep. i freaking have to work tmr! sighx, even with an off on friday, the weekend still seemed so short. never mind, i have 21 working days left, and less than 53 days to get my pink IC back. it’s the last leg of the 2 year NS. bear with it! (i’ll grumble about ICT on a later date. lols)

p.s. eVonne’s new album is good! =)

Thanks a lot to write what you think. As an author, I am always hunting fresh and different ways to look at a problem. I think this is good inspiration. Thanks a lot
